About The Birnam Guest House

A Green bed and breakfast with a difference.

Experience our local food from Atholl Estate and "our wild garden".www.swt.org.uk

The guest house offers 5 warm and comfortable en-suite bedrooms, conservatory lounge in which to relax and read your morning paper,  and a cosy dining room and lounge, complete with open fire, in which to enjoy our freshly cooked Scottish breakfasts.

The family rooms Loch Skiach and Loch Rannoch (both en-suite with showers) are at the front of the property on the 2nd floor and are large and cater for 4 and 3 people respectively.  The doubles on the 2nd floor, Loch Ordie with a bathroom, Loch Faskally en-suite with shower are at the rear overlooking the native oakwood and the small car park at the rear. Our twin room Loch Tay is also ensuite at the rear and on the first floor, therefore a little easier for those people who prefer one set of stairs.

Our food is sourced locally and is of the highest quality with organic food our main theme from the local eggs, venison or leek and pork sausages to the organic mushrooms and tomatoes.  We also have a wide selection of fresh fruit (seasonal), muesli, fruit juices, porridge and cereals.

We can give you all the advice, travel and walking information you need regarding Dunkeld and the surrounding area plus free maps of the local area. Whether you are on a short weekend break to see the wonderful landscapes and wildlife or for a wedding we know the best places to see, visit and where to go to enjoy the next stay on your journey.  We are a one stop shop full of information on Scotland, how to get around and see the best places.  Our knowledge of Scotland and its hidden gems is also second to none so come and stay and get the beefits of over 40 years of exploring Scotland.

Built during the reign of Queen Victoria, when local landowners refused to allow the new railway line to proceed further than Dunkeld, the house has operated for many years as a guest house.  The guest house is a listed building and is in the heart of the Birnam conservation area and therefore reflects a high level of quality and character.

The old Victorian building offers many challenges to an ecologically minded household and we try and conserve as much energy by using energy efficient devices and natural materails wherever possible.

Our small but well stocked garden bursts into colourful life in the spring with strategically placed seating providing sanctuary amongst the pots and plants on a warm summers day.

The Birnam Guest House is at the forefront of sustainable living.  We recycle almost everything, conserve energy and utilise energy saving measures wherever possible although this has many challenges in such an old Victorian building. We have an excellent knowledge of the local area and can advise you on a large variety of activities from local walks and tours to local tourist spots and features such as Dunkeld Cathedral.
